New Roland CUBE Street EX Battery-Powered Amp
A Powerful & Versatile PA for Mobile Musicians
The CUBE Street has been a mainstay among street musicians and traveling performers since its release, offering great sound in a highly mobile, battery-powered amp. Now, Roland kicks up the performance big time with the impressive new CUBE Street EX, delivering more of everything for the needs of on-the-go gigging musicians, including more power, more channels, and more versatility.
CUBE Street EX Battery-Powered Amp
High-Quality Sound with Battery Power
Compact and easy to carry, the CUBE Street EX is a powerhouse mobile PA for street gigs and small venues, and it also excels as a personal monitor for performing on large stages. It features 50 big watts of stereo power, two eight-inch woofers, and two tweeters, providing outstanding sound in a very small package. Equipped with newly developed tech by Roland, the CUBE Street EX delivers superior performance from eight AA batteries, with clean headroom and punchy sound that easily outperforms other battery-powered amps.
The CUBE Street EX can be used with either alkaline or NiMH rechargeable batteries. Output power is adjustable in three levels—Max (50 W), Normal (25 W), and Eco (10 W)—letting you optimize battery life for different performing situations. The amp can also be powered with the included AC adapter.
The amp features an ABS injection-molded body that provides both high durability and low weight (under 17 pounds). A mounting hole allows the amp to mounted on an optional ST-A95 Speaker Stand. Via the Stereo Link function, two CUBE Street EX units can be used together to create an expanded PA with up to eight simultaneous channels, ideal for performing with bigger groups and/or for larger crowds.
Onboard Mixer to Support a Variety of Mics & Instruments
With four independent channels, the versatile CUBE Street EX supports any kind of performing setup. The Mic/Instrument and Mic/Guitar channels are equipped with XLR/TRS combo jacks, letting you connect mics or various instruments. Each of these channels has its own three-band EQ and reverb effect, providing a lot of control for dialing in the sound. There’s also a Line In channel that allows you to connect mono or stereo devices, and an Audio In channel with a stereo 1/8-inch jack that supports Roland’s i-CUBE LINK for iOS devices.
Plug-and-Play Tones for Guitarists
If you’re a guitar player, you’ll love the CUBE Street EX—you can plug in and get great sounds without having to haul around extra gear. Onboard COSM tones for electric guitar include Lead, Crunch, and Clean, and there’s also an Acoustic Simulator for getting acoustic tones from an electric axe. And with the AC preamp, acoustic/electric guitarists can enjoy ready-to-go tones as well. Chorus/delay and reverb are on hand for sweetening the sound, and these effects can be turned on/off with optional foot switches. There’s even a built-in tuner, and the sound output is automatically muted while tuning.
Connect Your iPhone or iPad via i-CUBE LINK
The CUBE Street EX features Roland’s i-CUBE LINK, which makes it easy to use your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with the amp. The included cable provides two-way communication via your device’s headphone jack, allowing you to play backing music and record the amp’s sound output into a recording app.
Roland’s free CUBE JAM app works great with i-CUBE LINK, providing song playback from your iTunes library and an easy-to-use recording feature. CUBE JAM also offers some cool functions for performing and practicing, such as independent pitch/speed adjustment and Center Cancel for minus-one playing and karaoke.

The optional CB-CS2 Carrying Bag is made with waterproof material, and opens so the CUBE Street EX can be used without being removed from the bag.

Interesting video…not really very helpful. A real proper demo living in the real world would have helped more, at least for me. Just an idea.

I would like to use this as a personal monitor for my keyboard, when playing with a group. Does a single Cube play both the left and right channels of a stereo signal, or is a second Cube required?
May 24, 2014 @ 8:51 pm
Hello Phil,
Yes, the Cube Street EX will reproduce both Left and Right channels correctly – this is a fully stereo amplifier / speaker combination, so no other amp or speaker is needed.
May 26, 2014 @ 8:22 pm
It says 4 seperate channels, does that mean you can put 2 acoustic guitars and 2 mikes through this?
May 27, 2014 @ 10:57 am
Hello Chaz:
Thanks for contacting us about this. The CUBE STREET EX has four channels; two have Neutrik-style XLR / 1/4″ inputs, one has stereo 1/4″ inputs, and the fourth is an AUX in used primarily for external audio with a 1/8″ stereo input. We have attached a pdf of the EX owners manual for more detailed information about the amp.
Thanks again for checking with us about this.

As a Keyboard amp, does cube street ex sounds better than Roland KC110 or KC60?
June 2, 2014 @ 10:50 am
Sound is always kind of an opinion, so it is always best to use your own ears to make this kind of decision. The KC-110 and KC-60 are dedicated keyboard amps, voiced specifically for keyboard sounds. KC-100 can run on batteries, while the KC-60 does not. The CUBE Street EX is more of a multi-purpose amp, kind of like a PA, so its sound is not voiced to be keyboard specific. It sounds very good with all kind of inputs, but whether it is better or not better than the KC amps is hard to say.

Can it handle a Bass guitar?I have two CM 30s and they can’t handle the frequency, the speakers distort at about 3-4.Even when I use my GT-100 with my Fender Strat.I have to be really careful. What would be a good speaker replacement so I can turn these pups up.I wanted to use them in a wet/dry setup by using the EFX Branch Out mode into my 15 watt tube amp & run the stereo Delays and Reverb using the L/R outputs to the CM 30s.

Thanks for contacting us about this. Are you looking for a battery powered amp in particular or is that not necessary? if not, one of the CUBE GX amps will do a stellar job with your GT-100 for guitar sounds and any of the CUBE bass amps will certainly take care of the bass. CUBE GX amps are available from 20-80 watts; CUBE bass amps from 20-120 watts. If you need battery power, the CUBE Street EX will be OK for guitar or bass, but the MICRO CUBE BASS-RX is a battery powered bass amp and will probably give you a bit more on the low end.

Does it have 12 volts DC input or how many volts ? It would be nice to have in an car for quick monitoring off my laptop or something ….
June 4, 2014 @ 10:30 am
The CUBE Street EX runs on eight AA batteries or a 13V DC power supply. It draws 730mA.

Can the Cube Street support an acoustic guitar plus two mics?
June 18, 2014 @ 3:43 pm
It could if you used the LINE input for the guitar. This input does not have any effects or tone controls, but could be used for this purpose.
June 30, 2014 @ 8:27 am
How long can I expect to run off one set of 8 AAs if I’m running two acoustic electric guitars and one microphone? I realize there are a lot of variables, but roughly? 30mins? 60? longer?
June 30, 2014 @ 3:53 pm
Battery life of the Cube Street EX depends on several factors; most important are what output power you are using and what kind of batteries. There are three output modes: Max, Normal and Eco. If you use typical alkaline batteries, you can expect up to 4 hours in Max mode, 8 hours in Normal mode and 16 hours in Eco mode. Ni-MH rechargeable batteries can give you an increase in battery life. Max: 5 hours, Normal: 10 hours, Eco: 20 hours.

I currently have a Roland Street Cube and after carrying it to and from gigs think that a handle on one end would make it easier for me to handle. Is it possible to install a handle on one end of the Roland Street Cube? I was conderned about hitting some of the electonics on the inside with the screws of the handle.
I am also looking at the Roland Street Ex and would like to know the same thing about it. Could a handle be installed on one end of the amp? By the way, I think that the Roland Street Cube is wonderful ! ! ! I’m just thinking that having the 2 -8 inch speakers would allow me to have a richer, fuller sound.

I’ve checked here in the Fraser Valley/Vancouver Area. So far, no one is laying claim as to carrying the Street EX. I guess it is too new to the market. However, Dealers say they can get one if I want to order one. I really would like to hear the thing in person before I actually buy one. I will keep up my search… it is August 6.2014.
Oh, and, I was trying to find the meaning of COSM. I did find it on your Roland website. BUT, I think it would be a good idea to put that definition on the Wikipedia website; simply take what you already have and put it on Wikipedia… wherever that is. There already are about 8 different acronyms for COSM. Making yours stand out would, I think, be prudent.

Could you please supply information about the frequency response of the speakers in the Street EX. This information is usually supplied in the spec of most combos but appears to be unavailable for the EX.
Thanx.

Hi Simian,
Here are the specs for the CUBE Street EX: http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/1317/specs/

I’ve had the CUBE Street EX for 3 months now, and I’ve got to say I love it. Great sound, great combination of features. Perfect for rehearsing with a small group. A fantastic stage amp for my keyboard. And plenty of sound … in fact yesterday in the middle of setup we realized we’d forgotten the amp for the Mains for a small gig (50 people in a 100 person room), and just turned it around to face the crowd. Beautiful.

Hi. I intend to use a active/passive 4-channel mixer (e.g. passive ART SplitMix4 or active Behringer XENYX 1002B) to have a stereo output into the first/second input channel of the Roland Street Cube EX via a Y-adaptor cable. Does the MIC/Guitar input accept a balanced signal? And is it any issue if the frequency input ranges from 20-10k Hz? (I couldn’t find a frequency response range in the specs)
August 28, 2014 @ 1:31 pm
Hello:
the Mic/Guitar input of the Cube Street EX is unbalanced, but should accept the signal coming from your mixer if it is either a 1/4″ or XLR connection. Also you should have no issues with the frequency input.
However, as you are sending a stereo signal from your mixer, you might get better results if you use the Line In channel and retain your stereo sound without using a Y-cable.
