CUBE-GX Guitar Amps with iOS Connectivity
Three NEW Tone Machines for 2013
Roland kicks off the summer of 2013 with the blazing-hot CUBE-GX series, which includes three new triple-channel guitar amps with iOS connectivity built in. These versatile performers deliver a huge range of amazing amp tones powered by Roland’s acclaimed COSM technology, onboard sound processing via three independent effects sections, and rock-solid construction for legendary CUBE reliability. With the cool i-CUBE LINK connection, you can use a CUBE-GX amp as a guitar-to-iOS interface for your iPhone, iPad, or iPad touch. The included cable makes for a quick and simple connection, providing two-way communication that lets you jam and practice with music tracks, record CUBE-GX tones into recording apps, and much more.
The New CUBE-GX Comes in Three Models
Models in the new series include the CUBE-80GX, CUBE-40GX, and CUBE-20GX, providing a variety of size and feature options to suit all kinds of players. From stage performing to rehearsals to riffing at home, there’s a CUBE-GX amp for you!
CUBE-80GX and CUBE-40GX
The flagship CUBE-80GX is equipped with 80 watts of power and a custom 12-inch speaker, while the slightly smaller CUBE-40GX has 40 watts of power and a custom 10-inch speaker. Both amps deliver big sound from a compact footprint, and are easy to transport to gigs, rehearsals, and jams. Beyond their physical size and output/speaker specs, the CUBE-80GX and CUBE-40GX offer the same great amp tones and effects, and all other features are nearly identical.

Roland CUBE-40GX
Both amps include a wide range of COSM amp types and three independent channels. The JC CLEAN channel provides the legendary clean tone of Roland’s JC-120, while the ultra-versatile LEAD channel offers ten different amp voices to choose from. With the turn of a knob, you can dial up classic amp tones such as blackface clean, tweed crunch, Brit overdrive, and more. For heavy riffing, select one of three stack tones, or tap into the original EXTREME amp for massive, high-gain power. SOLO gives you a completely programmable third amp channel, letting you store and recall all settings from either the JC CLEAN or LEAD channel, along with EQ and effects.
Three independent effects sections provide a full arsenal of top guitar processing built right into the amps. The EFX section has five different stompbox-type effects, and the dedicated DELAY section offers two different delay types along with a TAP button for setting delay times quickly. The versatile REVERB section includes a vintage spring emulation or a studio-style plate. Other cool features include a chromatic/manual tuner, a direct recording output, and more. The CUBE-80GX and CUBE-40GX also support the optional GA-FC Foot Controller, which provides six switches for channel selection and effects on/off, along with two expression pedal ports for input and output volume control.
The CUBE-80GX is ideal for pro gigging situations, delivering ample volume for performing on big stages with loud bands. When you don’t need as much juice, the CUBE-40GX is a perfect choice, giving you top-level tone in a lighter amp that’s great for small clubs, theater gigs, rehearsals, and more.
CUBE-20GX
Compact and mighty, the CUBE-20GX is an excellent portable amp for practicing at home, jamming with friends, and playing at small venues. It offers big tones with 20 watts of power and a custom 8-inch speaker, and includes many of the versatile features found in its bigger brothers. Three channels include JC CLEAN, LEAD (with six types to choose from), and programmable SOLO, plus three independent effects sections. It also has a built-in chromatic tuner, a recording/phones out, and hands-free channel switching with optional BOSS FS-5U or FS-6 footswitches.

Roland CUBE-20GX
i-CUBE LINK for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
The CUBE-GX series features Roland’s innovative i-CUBE LINK interface for Apple’s iOS devices. Via the included cable, i-CUBE LINK connects directly to the audio jack on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and provides two-way communication with your favorite music apps. This gives you a simple and convenient way to play along with music tracks and send pro-level COSM guitar tones with effects straight into the recording app of your choice.
Plug into the Free CUBE JAM App!
Roland’s free CUBE JAM app turns your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into a fun and powerful tool for jamming, recording, and learning. You can play along with commercial songs and minus-one tracks through the CUBE-GX series via i-CUBE LINK, and record COSM amp tones right back into the app. CUBE JAM is also ideal for practicing, providing powerful playback features like independent speed/pitch adjustment for slowing fast passages and playing in different keys, Center Cancel for removing solos and vocals from music tracks, and more.

This cube looks pretty cool. I like all 3 models but I would probably go for the cube-80GX because I prefer to have more wattage in case I want it or need it.
The more I look at them and their features..ie. connecting to the iphone the more I like.

Seems kinda stupid that a company would ignore Android o/s users who out-number IOS users… 5-1. Thats a lot of sales being missed because you did not create an Android CUBE Jam App. This is the only reason I will not buy this GX amp product line. I guess Roland doesnt need the extra Millions in sales to android users.

Hi Steven,
Thank you for your comment. Roland appreciates your input. While the Cube Jam app is currently compatible with iOS, we are very mindful of musicians that use other kinds of mobile products. Please stay tuned to our new product offerings. Moving forward, we hope to make you very happy with our exciting music technology. Thanks again.

Hi your name sounds familiar. Were you the guitar player from Tourniquet? by the way I have an HTC phone and I have the Cube Lite. Also an Ipod touch 2nd gen, but I can’t download the app because of the IOS version. If I have an Ipod touch 4th gen would it work to download it?
November 20, 2013 @ 11:10 am
Hi Armando,
Yes, Gary was the guitarist for Tourniquet.
Yes, the iPod Touch 4th generation should work with the CUBE JAM app.
Sincerely.

Please come out with clean only amp. My boss gt100 does all the rest. By the way, since you’ve discontinued the boss br1600 digital recording studio, are you planning on coming out with a bigger better one? I was sorely dissapointed to see it go off the market, regret not buying it last year 🙁
August 28, 2013 @ 3:02 pm
You should check out the GA-112 Guitar Amp.
Have you seen the BR-800 Digital Recorder? Here is the current list of multi-track recorders.
August 28, 2013 @ 3:48 pm
Yds i’ve seen them all, thanks, what maxe you take thd 1600 off the market, i was expecting you guys to really make a larger 24 or 32 track not discontinue the 16 track???? I think you made a big mistake! So can you sinc two or more of the 8 tracks together with no latency issues?
August 29, 2013 @ 10:48 am
Hello Sam,
We understand how syncing two BR-800’s together would be useful for you. However, the BR-800 does not have a function to sync with other recording devices (e.g. another BR-800). The BR-800 is able to be used as an audio interface in order to record into software (Sonar software is included). Also, the BR can control recording software and act as a control surface. This is useful if you would like to record tracks and control the playback and recording of the software–all from the BR-800.
If you need more simultaneous recording channels, another option would be use an audio interface (if recording to a computer is a viable option for you). The OCTA-CAPTURE and STUDIO-CAPTURE are popular interfaces used for this purpose:

We hope this information is helpful!

Your by-passing my main question — Are you going to come out with another 16 track or larger studio to replace the br1600 or not? If “no” why, if “yes” when????
I count on Roland/Boss to supply me with most all my equipment, i don’t want to buy tascam or others, please find out and get back, thanks in advance.

Hi Sam, to answer your question – I do not have such information, and if I did, I wouldn’t be allowed to disclose it. Similar to other tech industries, that information isn’t disclosed until an official announcement is made. Sorry, it may not be the answer you were looking for, but that’s all I’m allowed to disclose regarding new gear. By the way, a new gear release announcement will be made next week at http://www.RolandConnect.com. 😉
August 29, 2013 @ 3:52 pm
Thanks OV, i understand, i will log into it next week and see what your offering 🙂
August 29, 2013 @ 6:24 pm
Thanks for understanding Sam.

No android support, and for what? So Roland can use an i- prefix as pointless branding for a 3.5mm socket, instead of offering actual functionality to the millions more android users? Pfft.
September 24, 2013 @ 8:45 am
Well, audio latency on Android devices is pretty bad though.
October 12, 2013 @ 3:07 pm
I wanna buy the 80gx but wanna make shure it ´ll work with my Samsung galaxy s IV , will it ? ´thx
November 20, 2013 @ 10:27 am
Hi Roderick,
The CUBE JAM app is only currently compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
The iLink with the Samsung would only work as an AUX input for playback of your audio files.
Sincerely.

I love the information you provided about this new Roland product. Sounds great to me. The iphone connection should be a good feature. I would have liked to find more reviews about those products but nothing so far… guess it is too soon…

Just found this blog, mostly by accident… and I too am the owner of a Cube20GX. I love the amp, but realizing that the CubeJam only works with Apple devices is a major sore spot with me.
I’ve always been an Android user and it’s my sincere hope that Roland will get with the program and release some Android compatible software for the Cube series. Since I will never be an Apple user. I’d like to use this feature on my Roland Cube Amp. TXS.

Will the cube jam app be available for Android anytime soon? Thanks!
January 23, 2014 @ 4:54 am
Hello there, I have and still own a lot of roland products. Your products have been the best in my opinion. I already own a cube 80xl and was looking to purchase another one. The new feature you have put on the gx is of no value to me. The looper on the xl was very useful. I imagine you have struck up some deal with apple and have ignored what your customers are looking for. I will be looking for a retailer with old stock (xl) or will have to got to a fender hot rod. Too bad
February 20, 2014 @ 6:32 am
Please introduce the Cube Jam for the Android soon. Not all people use Apple smart devices.
September 6, 2014 @ 7:08 pm
So the Aux In for XL will not work with Cube Jam???
September 11, 2014 @ 2:25 pm
Hello Carlos:
You are correct: the Cube-10GX does not have the i-CUBE Link feature, so cannot be used with Cube Jam.
Best regards,
