New Album Debut and Solo\u00a0Performance, Streamed Live from the GRAMMY Museum<\/h2>\n

On Thursday, March 23, 2017, Roland and BOSS will\u00a0present a\u00a0special\u00a0evening with award-winning guitarist and composer Andy Summers at the GRAMMY Museum\u00ae in Los Angeles. The event celebrates his latest release, Triboluminescence<\/em>, and will feature a conversation with the artist and an intimate solo music performance. Summers is a noted photographer as well, and the event\u00a0will also include a multimedia presentation with never-before-seen original photography, backed by\u00a0a live improvised guitar soundtrack.<\/p>\n

The evening will be live-streamed on the Roland and BOSS\u00a0Facebook pages as a Facebook Live event. Read on to find out more!<\/p>\n

About Triboluminescence<\/em>, The\u00a0<\/em>New Album from Andy Summers<\/h2>\n

Triboluminescence,<\/em>\u00a0Andy Summers\u2019 14th solo album, presents\u00a0a compelling\u00a0musical vision that the guitarist has evocatively dubbed \u201cNew Exotic.\u201d \u201cTriboluminescence is actually a scientific word that means creating light from dark, which I believe is a great metaphor for any creative act and, especially, music,\u201d stated Summers.\u00a0The album\u2019s nine tracks reflect his\u00a0penchant for endless layers, rich tone, and sound loops, as well as his love of jazz. In addition to featuring Summers’\u00a0impressive\u00a0guitar playing, the album also showcases\u00a0his skills on drums and percussion.<\/p>\n

Andy Summers.<\/p><\/div>\n

Summers, who was recently presented with the Roland and BOSS Lifetime Achievement award<\/a>, shared insights on the gear he used to record Triboluminescence<\/em>. \u201cMost of the drum tracks are on the Roland TD-20<\/a> drum kit,\u201d he said. \u201cThe beauty of it is that you can try different snare drums, different kits, you can move around, you can sort of mix it up.\u201d<\/p>\n

For many of the guitar sounds, Summers\u00a0employed\u00a0a mix of past and present classics\u00a0from Roland and BOSS. \u201cOn \u2018Elephant Bird,\u2019 we used the distortion in the Roland VG-99<\/a>,\u201d he related. \u201cIt\u2019s just a superb lead guitar sound, and I\u2019ve used it for quite a while now. We just never seem to be able to beat it; it\u2019s a very nice, slight overdrive sustain. It\u2019s got elegance to it. The first track, \u2018If Anything,\u2019 for instance, has got this soaring guitar like a soprano singer. Whenever I want to play that kind of liquid lead style, that\u2019s the sound I almost always go for.\u201d The guitarist is a longtime BOSS pedal user, and he used a few favorites\u00a0on the album. \u201cI used a classic one from the \u201880s called the VB-2<\/a> [Vibrato], a CS-1<\/a> Compressor Sustainer, and I have the new Waza Craft CE-2W<\/a> Chorus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Triboluminescence<\/em>\u00a0will be released worldwide on March 24, 2017, the day following\u00a0the Roland and BOSS event.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
