MICRO BR: Digital Recorder (Photo)

In the life of a musician, there are those products that are cool, and there are those products that are exciting. There are even those products that go into the “Amazing” category. Then there are the products you just shouldn’t be without. Your guitar, a tuner, picks, and the BOSS MICRO BR.

Really

I could load you up with details, and probably will later anyway, but first, let me let this cat out of the bag. The MICRO BR is just over 5” x 3” in size. It’ll fit in just about any gigbag, jeans pocket, or shirt pocket. This obviously means that it can go anywhere you can, whenever you want, and be able to record inspiration in the moment — not after the moment, or when you get home later and the muse has all but left you. The built-in condenser mic can capture one voice, or a room of musicians with ease.

Recording more than acoustics? Plug your guitar into the COSM (Composite Object Sound Modeling) guitar processor, and get the guitar tones that really sound amazing for your project. There are eighty presets in the MICRO BR, and you can easily edit any of them to your liking, and save them as your own. I was diggin’ the presets as they are. They’re THAT GOOD. There are plenty of Funk, Blues, Jazz, Country, and serious Rock guitar tones that will blow you away. You can record them in mono, or stereo for an ultra-fat sound.

Other inputs besides mic and guitar are line in and external mics. The line in can be used to bring in sounds from any electronic audio device on 1/8” jack, or from, say, a keyboard.

The external mics are the type that are often found on mini-disk recorders, to get a stereo field while recording.

You can fully edit your tracks, copy them, or move them around. Then you can bounce them at will. Getting a finished product is easy, as there’s a Mastering Tool Kit built-in as well. When you get done Mastering, you can even convert the file to .wav, .aif, or even MP3, INSIDE the MICRO BR.

The “no brainer” aspect of the MICRO BR is much like the other BR-Series recorders:

Manual Shmanual. The MICRO BR so intuitive and easy to use, it becomes second nature. Need a guitar effect? Hit the effect button. Want drums or rhythm? Hit the Rhythm button. Want to play MP3s? Hit the MP3 button. I think you get the idea.

It’s Easy

Speaking of MP3s, have you ever wished that you could jam along with your favorite guitar hero’s music, and be able to slow down the music to really hear that solo without changing pitch? The MICRO BR does this with ease! You can actually load your favorite MP3’s into the MICRO BR, AND plug in your guitar at the same time to jam along with the music! The best part is that you don’t need another mixer to combine the two. Try that while using any other MP3 player. You still have full access to all of the guitar patches, so you can match the vibe of the song you’re jamming to. Then use time stretch to speed up or slow down the song in real-time. How cool is that?

As an instructor, your students could have MICRO BRs, and you could literally email them their homework assignments as MP3s. Give them a melody line on Monday, and ask them to work out a three part harmony, then email it back to you by Friday.

As a band leader, if the people in the band each had a MICRO BR, you could give them the set as MP3s for them to rehearse with.

This can go on and on…

The MICRO BR is a four-track recorder with 8 V-Tracks per recording track for a total of 32 recordable tracks. The Rhythm Guide has 327 different patterns to choose from, eighty guitar and bass patches in the COSM guitar processor, a built-in condenser mic that sounds great, full track editing capabilities, a bounce mode, a Mastering Tool Kit with 10 presets for different styles of music, also fully editable. USB connectivity is cross platform to PC or Mac, to back up your songs to computer, move your finished audio files to burn a CD, or move your converted MP3’s to your favorite web page.

The two “AA” batteries will run it at full speed, or you can use a BOSS standard PSA-120 power supply. It comes with a 128MB SD memory card that can give you over an hour and a half of recording time (one mono track). You can expand this to a 1GB SD card for over 13 hours of recording time (one mono track) or almost 3.5 hours of four-track recording!

You can even use the MICRO BR as an MP3 recorder to record shows or rehearsals. Optional accessories include the BA-PC15 Earphones/Guitar cable set, and the BA-M-BR MICRO BR play case.

(I told you I was going to load you up with details).

The MICRO BR is one of those “more than capable” recorders that not only fits your music, but your lifestyle. It can go wherever you can, to capture that moment, that critical idea that sparks your musical imagination. Capture your imagination with the BOSS MICRO BR.
